Effective May 1, 2025, 3A Composites Core Materials is proud to have switched to formally declare its BALTEK® SBC product line as FSC™ MIX certified, reaffirming our commitment to transparency and sustainable sourcing.
As the global leader in balsa wood core materials, we have long maintained 100% FSC™-certified owned plantations, ensuring responsible forestry and full traceability throughout our supply chain. While we have held FSC™ certification for many years, this marks an increasing level of traceability by extending that certification directly to our BALTEK® SBC product declarations – enabling our customers to benefit from the official FSC™ status in their own certifications, sustainability reporting, and product claims.
“This step reinforces what has always been true behind the scenes: our BALTEK® SBC comes from responsibly managed sources,” said Juan Matheus, Global Product BALTEK® & ESG Manager. “Now, with FSC™ certification formally passed through to our end products, we’re strengthening our customers’ ability to meet growing sustainability and compliance demands.”
By declaring BALTEK® SBC products as FSC™ MIX certified, we are not changing how we source or produce – only how we recognize and communicate the environmental integrity our customers can count on. Our sites are certified for FSC™ Chain of Custody to support these claims, and the declared volumes are thoroughly audited by certifying bodies.
A FSC™ MIX product is comprised by at least 70% wood from FSC managed plantations (in this case, the 3A Composites Core Materials forest patrimony in Ecuador and Papua New Guinea) and up to 30% of wood following the FSC standard for Controlled Wood.
