BALTEK® balsa core materials are now officially EUDR ready

BALTEK® balsa core materials are now officially EUDR ready 3A Composites Core Materials is pleased to announce that its BALTEK® balsa wood core materials are now fully EUDR ready, in advance of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) enforcement date of December 30, 2025. This achievement highlights our long-standing commitment to responsible forestry, regulatory compliance, and our Care2Core ESG strategy, focused on building a sustainable future, living in harmony with nature, and generating growth for our people and communities.

Ensuring full compliance with the new EUDR requirements
The EUDR introduces comprehensive traceability and legality requirements for all wood-based goods entering the European Union. Operators (the entities clearing goods through EU customs) must provide:

- Geolocation data (polygon coordinates) of all harvested plots
- Legality evidence, such as harvesting permits and proof of origin
- Deforestation-free verification, confirming no land conversion after 31 December 2020
- Full supply chain traceability documentation
- A Due Diligence Statement (DDS) submitted in the EU TRACES platform for each import

To simplify this process for customers, 3A Composites Core Materials has implemented EUDR-compliant procurement and traceability systems. Through the OSAPIENS platform, importers of BALTEK® materials can access GeoJSON geolocation data and related documentation required to complete their DDS quickly and accurately.

How our FSC® plantation model supports EUDR compliance

BALTEK® is the only balsa core material produced from FSC®-certified (FSC-C100270), responsibly managed plantations rather than natural rainforest extraction. Our vertically integrated plantation model in Ecuador provides a level of transparency and traceability unmatched in the industry and directly aligned with EUDR objectives.

3A Composites Core Materials holds the full suite of FSC® certifications, including:

- Forest Management (FM) certification, ensuring responsible plantation management and protection of biodiversity
- Chain of Custody (CoC) certification, guaranteeing traceability through every processing and distribution step
- Controlled Wood (CW) certification, preventing the use of wood from unacceptable or high-risk sources

This robust certification structure, combined with long-term monitoring of plantation areas and satellite-based verification, provides our customers with:
- Verified proof of deforestation-free origin and legal sourcing
- Accurate and consistent geolocation data for each production batch
- A low-risk profile under EUDR, minimizing the likelihood of customs flags or verification delays
- A simplified and reliable path toward regulatory compliance and ESG performance

Delivering compliance with minimal disruption
From the first day of enforcement, operators importing BALTEK® products into the EU will receive all the necessary data – including FSC® documentation, GeoJSON files, and shipment details (Bill of Lading, phytosanitary certificate, HS codes, etc.) – to generate their DDS in the EU TRACES system with minimal additional workload.

Distribution materials sold directly by Airex AG will continue to be cleared on behalf of distributors, ensuring a seamless process across the value chain. EUDR readiness reinforces our mission to support customers in achieving regulatory compliance and ESG goals, while providing highperformance, responsibly sourced balsa core materials that enable more sustainable manufacturing worldwide.
