Creating a sustainable future

We want to make the industry greener each day by respecting nature, forests and water resources. Our commitment to sustainability is deeply ingrained in all aspects of our business, including preserving natural resources and developing sustainable products as well as ensuring economic, social and environmental wellbeing of all communities we are active in. We are committed to reducing environmental pollution and cutting down on our carbon footprint significantly by 2020.

Three key pillars of our sustainability strategy

  • Focus on design and innovation to develop high-performing, competitive and sustainable products.
  • Implement lean management in all areas to deliver superior quality and high efficiency.
  • Protect the environment and create a sustainable future for our company and the communities we work in.

People and communities

We are strongly committed to protecting the natural environment and cultural heritage of the communities we work in. We care about our employees and their families around the world, but especially in Papua New Guinea and Ecuador, where our balsa core operations are carried out. We try to promote a sense of belonging and to enhance the quality of life in those communities by helping them earn sustainable income and by providing playschools for their children.

Environment

The overarching value of our company is consistent and sustainable protection of natural resources and the environment. We want to make the industry greener and lead by example. We apply even stricter regulations than needed in our industry to make continuous improvements and invest heavily in environmental protection. We are proud to be the pioneer global supplier of balsa core materials with FSC®-certified plantations. Our forest companies operate several thousand hectares of FSC®-certified balsa wood plantations in Ecuador (FSC-C019065) and Papua New Guinea (FSC-C125018).

Our core business is delivering high-quality, sustainable products of superior durability and performance as well as providing all our customers with a long term-guarantee. Our production sites have been EN ISO 9001 and EN ISO 14001 certified for a long time, and proudly boast these two decisive quality and environmental standards.

Health & safety

Our highest priority is to create a healthy, safe and sustainable working and living environment. The management system in our company therefore fully relies on the environmental, health and safety (EHS) guidelines applied across our sites globally.   They ensure and support responsible actions of all our staff members. With such aim, our company strategy is strongly based on the following three standards: quality management (EN ISO 9001), environmental management (EN ISO 14001) and occupational health and safety (OHSAS 18001).

"Sustainability is the cornerstone of our DNA."
